Novi High Educator Receives Michigan Lottery Award

French teacher Nick LeTarte is recognized for his excellence in education.

From Novi HS: Novi High School French teacher Nick LeTarte is this week's Michigan Lottery Excellence in Education award winner.

Last month, LeTarte received a $500 check from the Michigan Lottery and Michigan State men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo at the Breslin Center in East Lansing.

LeTarte is known throughout the Novi Community School District for the entertaining YouTube videos that he and his fellow high school teachers produce throughout the school year.

“He strives to help make our large school small by building relationships inside and outside of the classroom,” said Nicole Carter, principal at Novi High School. “He shares his gift of producing videos to promote a positive school climate and culture.”

The Excellence in Education award program was established in 2014 to recognize outstanding public school educators across the state during the school year.

LeTarte, who has taught at Novi High School for the last 12 years, will be featured in a news segment on the Michigan Lottery’s media partner stations: WXYZ-TV in Detroit, FOX 17 in Grand Rapids, and FOX 47 in Lansing. The news segment featuring LeTarte will air this Thursday, Feb. 16 in Detroit.

Winners of the weekly award receive a plaque, a $500 cash prize, and a $500 grant to their classroom, school or school district. One of the weekly winners will be selected as the Educator of the Year and will receive a $10,000 cash prize.

Last February, Trisha Wellock, a sixth-grade math and science teacher at Novi Meadows Elementary, was a weekly award winner.
