Novi Library To Expand Hours This Fall

The library will have new hours starting in September.

Starting Sept. 1, the Novi Public Library will have new hours.

According to the library's April e-newsletter, the new hours will be as follows:

  • Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sundays year round noon to 6 p.m.

This change extends the library's closing time on Fridays and Saturdays by one hour. It also expands the library's Sunday hours by two hours.

Library Director Julie Farkas said she is excited to be offering additional hours to the community.

Farkas said patrons have been asking for longer hours for years.

"The Library Board had always been aware of the need, but due to budgets they did not want to commit to the new extended hours until they were confident the library’s budget could sustain the additional hours," she told Patch in an email.

"When we did our focus groups this summer as part of the strategic planning process for the new five-year plan, extended hours was mentioned many times by our residents.Β  The need was more for later hours than being open earlier," she said.

The biggest change is that the library will now be open on Sundays during the summer beginning it 2014; previously it was closed on Sundays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

"Sundays have been seen typically as 'family' days at the library, and now we will be able to extend those hours, plus offer Sundays in the summer! We hope to plan programming and events, as well," Farkas said.
