NOVI, MI — A 29-year-old Novi woman was charged after recently hitting a parked car in a Haggerty Road Applebee's restaurant in Northville Township. The owner of a Ford Focus, also a Novi resident, went into the parking lot to check on his car after hearing another restaurant patron asking who the Focus belonged to, according to a report in the Novi News.

The 25-year-old Novi man received information from someone who claimed to witness the accident, the newspaper reported. Northville Township police were contacted by the owner of the damaged Ford Focus and investigated the incident.

The investigation led to the Novi woman, whom police reports said was driving a silver Chevrolet Malibu. When police contacted the woman, she said friends told her she had hit a car, the Novi News reported. The woman told police she then stopped at the Hyatt in Novi to check for damage.

Northville Township Police later examined her car and an officer reported a fresh scratch mark and black paint transfer. The woman denied that the scratch came from hitting the Focus at Applebee’s. Officers asked the 29-year-old woman if she had been drinking and she told them she had had one drink, the Novi News reported.

The woman had slurred speech and a lack of coordination, the newspaper reported. She was given a breath test to indicate the level of intoxication and was subsequently jailed for eight hours, after which she was released. The woman was charged in the March 21 hit-and-run property damage accident to the Focus, the Novi News reported.
