1,600 Customers Without Power in Rochester Hills, Oakland Township
A large area surrounding Dutton and Sheldon roads is without power.

UPDATE: Power was restored some time during the night; there is no widespread outage in the area at this time.
More than 1,600 customers in Rochester Hills and Oakland Township lost power around 4 p.m. Thursday due to an "area outage," according to the DTE EnergyΒ outage map.
The outage area extends from Parkdale Road north to Snell Road, and from west of Rochester Road to Dequindre Road.

There is not a cooling shelter open in Rochester Hills or Oakland Township, though Rochester Hills Fire Department Chief Ron Crowell said the fire department would work with Rochester Community Schools to open a school as a cooling shelter "if the need arises."
AboutΒ 29,000 customers are without power in Metro Detroit, including more than 4,000 in Ferndale. DTE Energy has initiated rolling blackouts in some Metro Detroit communities to try to maintain stability in the electric grid system as its crews make repairs.
