• New state aid provisions provide biggest impact of 2025 (theoaklandpress.com) — Lake Orion schools are in line for about $1 million from new state safety and mental health grants that most Oakland County districts have accepted. The money comes with controversial legal conditions about waiving certain privileges after mass-casualty events, which some superintendents and legal experts say are vague and potentially risky while an appeal moves forward. 
• Pine Tree Center sold to Orion Township (theoaklandpress.com) — Lake Orion school leaders have approved selling the former Pine Tree Center on Pine Tree Road to Orion Township for $200,000, clearing the way for a new public park. The township is weighing whether to fully demolish the building or keep only the gym, after special education programs there were consolidated due to rising costs and limited benefit to Lake Orion students.
• Lake Orion man shot dead on Christmas Day (theoaklandpress.com) — A man from Lake Orion was killed on Christmas Day after reportedly breaking into a home in Fowlerville and exchanging gunfire with the homeowner. Sheriff’s officials say the homeowner, who suffered non-life-threatening wounds, called 911 before deputies and other agencies responded to the scene.
