If you're looking for a summer read but don't want to fret over fines for overdue books, the Orion Township Public Library offers several ways to check out free digital works. Here is how you can get started:
Please note you will need a valid Orion Township Public Library card in order to use most of these services.
1. Midwest Collaborative for Library Services
Through the Orion Township Public Library and Midwest Collaborative for Library Services, library members can borrow—and keep—thousands of public domain books. You can view the list here. These are issued in the ePub format, which works natively with most e-reader devices besides Kindle, but free software including Calibre allows users to convert e-books to different file formats, including the Kindle's native .mobi format.
2. OverDrive
OverDrive is one of the leading providers of borrowable e-books, used by libraries around the country. You can view the OverDrive library of books for Orion Township Public Library users, as well as information about downloading the OverDrive app, here.
3. Zinio e-Magazines
Zinio eMagazines allows users to download and enjoy electronic versions of many popular magazine titles using a computer or compatible portable device. For more detailed information about using Zinio, including account creation for first-time users, please see the library's Zinio eMagazines page.
4. OneClickDigital
OneClickDigital allows Orion library members to download and listen to classic titles using their computer or supported mobile device. New users will be asked to create an account and authenticate using your Orion Library card. To get started, click here.
5. TumbleBook
TumbleBooks is an online collection of animated, talking picture books which teach kids the joy of reading in a format they'll love. TumbleBooks are created by adding animation, sound, music and narration to existing picture books in order to produce an electronic picture book which kids can read, or have read to them.
