Oak Arbor Students Present 'The Ransom of Miss Elverna Dower'

students in fifth through eighth grade are proud to present Laurie Brant's on Nov. 17 and 18 at . The play is a comedic take on O. Henry’s classic tale, The Ransom of Red Chief

Casey, played by eighth grader Natalie Steen, and her trusty sidekick Tim (Jarrett Buikema) kidnap their English teacher, Elverna Dower, to avoid a test.

Start with a strong-willed teacher who does not make a good kidnap victim, throw in a principal that does not want to pay the ransom and you have a fun-filled romp that will keep you laughing. Many other colorful characters round out the production.

Each fall, the directors of the play choose a script that is tailored to showcase the talents of the current group of students. Students are encouraged to learn their lines and develop their characters based on the parameters of the script.

Our students get so much out of the whole process from rehearsal through the performances. Performing builds our students' self confidence, self discipline and problem-solving skills while promoting camaraderie and teamwork.
