Despite a pandemic, Oakland Schoolsβ Construction Technology students from Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northeast (OSTC-NE) and Oakland Schools Technical Campus Northwest (OSTC-NW) were still able to frame a three-bedroom, two-bath, 1,368 square-foot home they constructed during the months of May and June in the 2020-2021 school year. The home was moved today to a location in Pontiac and made available for purchase to a local family. Β
The 40 students, four female and 36 male, hail from various high schools around Oakland County: Pontiac High School, International Technology Academy (ITA), Pontiac Academy for Excellence, Auburn Hills Avondale High School, Rochester High School, Rochester Stoney Creek High School, Rochester Adams High School, Oxford High School, Lake Orion High School, Auburn Hills Christian, Clarkston High School, Waterford Mott High School, Waterford Kettering High School, Brandon High School and Holly High School. The students overcame barriers to finishing the project during the pandemic by meeting on a hybrid schedule and wearing masks to ensure the framing project was complete.

βThe fact that these students were still able to finish this project during a pandemic speaks volumes to the type of students and instructors we have involved in our OSTC programs,β said Oakland Schoolsβ Superintendent Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson. βOur OSTC campuses allow students to participate in projects that engage the entire community, while also giving them the tools they need to succeed in their future careers.β

The home was built in partnership with Oakland Livingston Human Service Agencyβs Venture, Inc., the Oakland County Treasurerβs Office, Onsite Solutions, Community Housing Network, and Oakland County Community and Home Improvement.
Several local dignitaries attended the ribbon cutting. The event highlighted the unique educational experiences OSTC students garner, helping them secure a bright future.Β
