UPDATE: Orion Road to Remain Closed 'Till After Rush Hour'
Crews are working to replace an electrical pole after a vehicle severely damaged the pole Sunday evening.
Orion Road is closed between Livernois and Silverbell roads as DTE Energy crews work to replace an electrical pole that was damaged by a vehicle Sunday evening.
"(We) just got notice per the road commision it will be closed till after rush hour," Oakland County Sheriff's Office Substation Commander Sgt. Tony Spencer said Monday afternoon.
The pole was damaged when a 22-year-old Oakland Township resident driving on Orion Road lost control of his vehicle just before 7 p.m., ran off the road and struck the pole, "snapping it off at the base," according to the crash report. The vehicle then struck a tree. The car was totaled, police said.

The driver likely had a diabetic reaction, which caused him to lose control of the vehicle, Oakland County Sheriff's Deputy Terry Cashman said.
The driver was not coherent at the scene, was combative and had to be restrained so he did not touch the live power lines that were sagging almost to the ground, Cashman said. The Oakland Township Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the driver to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital.

"He's still in the hospital," Cashman said Monday, "but he's going to be OK."
A crew member directing traffic at the scene this morning said they anticipate the road will reopen "hopefully later today."
