Police Blotter: Burglar Attempts Break-In While Homeowner Attends Funeral

The following information was supplied by the Oakland County Sheriff's Office Substation in Oakland Township.

A man returned home from his mother's viewing Wednesday evening after deputies notified him of an attempted break-in at his Knob Creek Drive home, according to a sheriff's office report.

Deputies responded to an alarm at the residence and discovered the door to the residence "locked but loose." When the homeowner arrived home and unlocked the door, deputies observed damaged to the door frame and door jam. "It appears the door may have been 'shouldered' to gain entry," read the report.

According to the report, the resident said no personal property was taken from the garage or the residence.

The homeowner said his mother had recently passed away, and he had placed an obituary in a local paper. The resident "suspects that someone may have read the obituary and known they were going to be gone," according to the report. There are no suspects or witnesses.

Wind blows door open, trips alarm

Deputies responded to a burglar alarm that had been tripped at a home on East Gunn Road at noon on Tuesday, according to a sheriff's office report.

The door to the residence was "wide open," though everything appeared normal. "It appears the wind blew open the door," read the report. The home was secured before deputies left the scene.

Deputy shoots injured raccoon

While patroling Rochester Road early Friday morning, a deputy struck a raccoon with his patrol vehicle. The deputy stopped and discovered the raccoon was still alive but severely injured, according to a sheriff's office report.

The deputy – who had previously while on patrol at night – used his .22 caliber back-up weapon to put the raccoon down.
