1. Advocate for students. "I think I have the wisdom to be an advocate for students and quality schools as both a professional because, you know, I've been a teacher, I've been a principal, I've been a superintendent, but also through the lens of a parent," Meissen said.
2. It's a family thing. Education is family tradition in the Meissen family. His father was a teacher and his mother a school secretary. In addition, all of his siblings also went into the education field. "It was a way of life," he said.
3. New to Michigan. As a new Canton resident, Meissen said he is still learning his way around the area, but frequently gets lost. "I stay close to my GPS," he said. Meissen said he looks forward to learning more about the area and Michigan in general.
4. Loves to travel. The new superintendent loves to visit the mountains, with Colorado being his favorite spot.
5. Packers and Badgers fan. Meissen is a big sports fan and enjoys all kinds of sports. He cheers for the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers and the Air Force Falcons. "I am impressed with the traditions in the Big 10, so when they're not playing the Badgers, I have another team to cheer for," he said.
