Award-Winning Local Author Supriya Kelkar Set For Virtual Visits To Gallimore And Field

Gallimore and Field Elementary students will get the chance to celebrate the diversity of the Plymouth-Canton community.

Gallimore and Field Elementary students will get the chance to celebrate the diversity of the Plymouth-Canton community and hear stories of international history and culture this month when award-winning local author Supriya Kelkar visits both school communities.

Kelkar's work brings stories of Indian culture to young readers at an age-appropriate level. Her work Ahimsa tells the story of a child's perspective of the fight for India's independence from British colonial rule in the 1940's. The book received an ALA Booklist and School Library Journal starred review, and was winner of the New Visions Award. Her middle-grade novel American as Paneer Pie tells the story of cultural identity among immigrant families tested by he pressures of assimilation and the scourge of racism.

Kelkar's visits come in advance of the publication of her latest work, Bindu's Bindis on March 1st. The story spotlights the importance of multi-generational family connections, and the embrace of individual talents and gifts through the eyes of a young girl and her maternal grandmother.

Kelkar will virtually visit Gallimore on February 23rd and 25th, and Field on February 24th.
