Box Bar Closing After Seven Decades In Plymouth
The Box Bar in Plymouth will close late next month or in early October.
PLYMOUTH, MI — After more than 70 years in business, the Box Bar will close its doors in late September or early October. Owner Chip Falcusan has sold the bar and grill, known widely for its assortment of beers and hamburgers, to Ron Cook, who plans to rename and change the focus of the establishment, according to a Plymouth Observer report.
"The Box Bar has been a big part of Plymouth for many years," Falcusan said. "It's a place where people come to talk, celebrate and gather together."
"And for Mayor Dan Dwyer, it was a place where he and wife Shon stopped so he could have a beer before she gave birth to their daughter Emma, now 20. She had been advised by doctors to take a short walk to help induce labor. "She told me to have a beer, then we walked home and went to the hospital," Dwyer said.
