Canton Teen Found With Loaded AK-47, Drugs In Traffic Stop: MSP
The 19-year-old Canton resident was arrested along with a Detroit resident after troopers said they made a stop for a seatbelt violation.

CANTON, MI — A 19-year-old Canton resident was arrested early Monday morning along with an 18-year-old from Detroit after the pair was pulled over by state police troopers for not wearing their seatbelts.
However, when Michigan State troopers made contact with the driver, officials said troopers found a loaded .40 caliber handgun with an extended magazine and 20 rounds of ammunition at the passenger’s feet, police said.
Police did not release the identity of the two people who were arrested.

Police also found a fully automatic AK-47 loaded with 31 rounds of ammunition in the magazine in the vehicle’s floorboard, the state police said. Police said while the two people were being arrested, the driver threw a bag underneath the trooper’s patrol car. Inside, the bag, troopers found what they believe to be 15 packs of crack cocaine as 12 packs of suspected heroin, a Michigan State Police spokesman said.
The traffic stop took place at 2:30 a.m. on Monday in Detroit on Davison near Lawton, police said.

“We are continuing to find illegal guns during traffic enforcement,” Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. “Our troopers will continue to look for illegal guns during all patrol activities. It is our goal to get these guns off the street along with those suspects carrying them.”
