East Middle School 8th Grade Home Learning Highlight

Here are some learning highlights from East Middle School.

Media Specialist Ensures Students, Staff and Families Have Resources

East Middle School Media Specialist Kathy Lester

The theme song from the movie Ghostbusters asks the question “Who you Gonna Call?” East Middle School students, teachers and families know the answer when it comes to getting the support they need during remote learning…It’s Media Specialist Kathy Lester

Lester and media specialists throughout the district are providing access to the resources, lessons, and technology support they normally provide during in-person learning. Lester has worked to translate those services to meet the needs of East’s virtual learning community.

To help students with reading, Lester has joined ELA Zoom classrooms to provide lessons on how to check out eBooks and how to reserve print books via curbside pick-up at East. Students at East are reading and have checked out close to 2000 books (print & eBooks) in the first three months of school. She also co-teaches in about 36 Canvas classrooms at all grade levels, providing Digital Citizenship Lessons, research skills (including how to access Michigan eLibrary resources), and how to use the tool MyBib to create citations and create video playlist.

Finally, Lester supports staff, students, and families with technology application issues, including support for Canvas and Zoom. She holds regular open Zoom Drop-in Support Sessions too. She even provides ‘how to” sheets or videos for common questions or issues.
