Second Grade VA Teacher Give Students What They Want
Virtual Academy for Second Grade at Bentley, Hoben, Bird Elementary - Tracy Dodes
Ask any second grader and they will tell you that field trips are a must for any elementary-aged kid. When the school year started last fall, students in Tracy Dodes second grade class quickly let her know that they expected field trips this school year. Wanting to give her students the field trip they desired, Dodes looked for the perfect experience that would have the same impact as an in-person adventure. Luckily, she was able to work some puppy magic and connected with the Michigan Humane Society of Huron Valley.
Humane Society representative Karen Patterson recently, virtually welcomed Dodes’ 27 students into a world of puppies and kittens. She not only shared stories of the animals, but students were able to see them in the shelter. The questions then flooded the meeting and Patterson didn’t miss a beat in answering each and every one of them.

As Dodes taught her students that day, school is about more than reading, writing and arithmetic. Puppies and kittens provide some valuable relief to the stresses of the remote learning environment.
Wouldn’t you agree this story gives a whole new meaning to the idea of the teacher’s pet?
