Teacher Creates Daily Destinations for Students

Field Elementary First Grade Kim Tews

This year teacher Kim Tews has really put her heart and soul into creating dynamic curriculum slides for herself and the entire first grade teaching team at Field Elementary. Google slides are the teaching tool she is using during her Zoom or Smartboard lessons to give students an engaging visual experience.

Tews creates a different atmosphere each day. Students might enter her classroom to an outer space galaxy, a cozy cabin ambiance scene or a live feed into the wild to watch polar bears play in the snow. Tews says she had great fun creating theme slides that have taken her class many places this year.

She recently used slides to make reading and science connections. Students learned first hand that reading can take them out of this world. So they virtually visited the international space station (storytimefromspace) and listened while astronauts on the ISS read different space stories. Through her slides Tews and her students have traveled from Manhattan, New York to Sesame Street to practice rhyming with Grover. They also visited Chicago Illinois and Nina’s World to learn about different holidays in her neighborhood and even went to Mount Crumpit, Whoville for a Grinch Scavenger hunt and ended back in Canton, Michigan.
