IKEA Makes Over Youth Center Kitchen

Workers from IKEA recently gave a Canton youth center's kitchen a complete makeover.

CANTON, MI — IKEA recently gave a Canton youth and teen center a stylish kitchen makeover. A small army from the giant Ford Road retailer installed a new refrigerator, stove and cabinets, among other items, last week at the center, which is located on the third floor of Canton administration building. The center serves youths ages 11-17 as a place to go during summer and after school to study, and hang out.

"The B.L.O.C.K. (Building Leaders Out of Canton Kids) could never have afforded the kitchen makeover on the money it gets from Canton Township government. IKEA doesn't divulge how much it spends on projects."
"We would have had to put this in a five-year or 10-year plan," said Laura Mortier, recreation specialist who oversees the youth program. "We've never had a donation quite like this before."
