Magformers Opens Shop In Canton

The first U.S. Magformers toy store opened in Canton on Thursday.

CANTON, MI — For generations past, Lincoln Logs were the gold standard in toys that allowed children’s imagination to run wild. And while Legos are still around and extremely popular, a new toy has emerged as a go to for constructing funky vehicles, cities, animals, ferris wheels, airplanes and pretty much anything else that can be imagined — Magformers.

Korea-based Gymworld Inc. owns Magformers. On Thursday, the company opened its first U.S. company store in Canton. The retail store, located at 44125 Ford Road just east of Sheldon Road, is about 1,400 square feet and is also home to Gymworld’s North American headquarters, the Detroit News reported.

“We’re excited to be in the Metro Detroit area,” said CEO Chris Tidwell. “We feel we have a very educated consumer here. We really are looking forward to being more and more a part of the community. I think people who don’t know us, in a few years from now will very much know Magformers.”
Magformers are magnetic pieces that can be stuck together to build flat or multidimensional structures. The pieces have patented rotating magnets that ensure a “frustration-free” connection, Tidwell said.
