Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

How do you know the star local student?

Evalyn is my daughter and I work with her at the non-profit org I head, Youth Volunteer Corps

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Eva is a force of nature, like a hurricane. She plans for what she wants, gathers what she needs, and executes her project with strength and humility. Eva is your All-American, Hispanic-American young woman. Cheerleader, Golfer, student Congress, Red Cross, Robotics, NHS, STEM program, and straight-A student, Eva does not take her responsibilities or promises lightly. She has been volunteering for YVC Plymouth (Youth Volunteer Corps) since sixth grade. Her favorite activities work with children and STEM. Eva is the first youth to volunteer and the last to leave the project. She has a fierce desire to help other girls enter the field of Science, to lift them up and help them locate resources in the community, such as tutoring young women in math and science at the Canton Library on Tuesdays. Evalyn jumps at any time she can spend helping her peers to do well in academics or running science experiments with younger students. Eva loves working with people of all backgrounds, socioeconomics, religions, and abilities. On a recent podcast, Eva said it is important to get to know and love your neighbors and community. Evalyn is being nominated for her continuing passion for helping and building the community in which she lives.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Eva values everyone else’s opinion, and encourages her peers. It has become second nature for her to lift people up instead of putting them down.

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future,Evalyn 11th!
