NB I-275 Construction Starts Wednesday

MDOT will be repairing concrete on northbound through Canton starting Wednesday.

CANTON, MI — Driving northbound on I-275 in Canton will take a little extra time. The Michigan Department of Transportation will be repairing concrete from Eureka Road up to Ford Road starting Wednesday night at 9 p.m. Work is scheduled to be completed later this summer.

Traffic will be reduced from three lanes down to one during construction work. During the week, work will take place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Weekend work starts on Friday night at 9 p.m. and will run until 5 a.m. Monday.

The only work taking place this weekend will be on the northbound lanes. Southbound I-275 remains open with three lanes. The dates for the remaining weekends will be announced once they are scheduled.

MDOT says the repairs will provide drivers with a safer route. Lanes closures allow workers to have more room to address the patching areas, the agency adds.

Travelers taking I-275 to Detroit Metropolitan Airport should plan additional time to drive through the work zone, MDOT says. Also, road construction at the airport will make getting around a little more time consuming.

A project has begun at the airport on Lucas Drive, off Middle Belt Road, with one lane open in each direction. Access is being maintained to the rental car lots. Beginning in early July, airport construction will impact traffic on Rogell Drive, the main route from I-94 into the north end of Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
