P-CEP Teacher Janet Sutherland's Remote Learning Innovations Rewarded With State Farm Insurance Grant
The veteran teacher's innovations during the COVID-19 pandemic have garnered the attention of State Farm Insurance.
For P-CEP teacher Janet Sutherland, helping students learn and connect with each other is an ever-evolving labor of love that has always been about more than just teaching.
Her time at P-CEP has left a mark on generations of students. Whether as a passionate advisor to Canton student government -- complete with wildly popular early morning donut sales -- in the 1990's, or as a current video production teacher who leads the award-winning STS morning announcements, Sutherland has never stopped looking for ways to make her students' experience at P-CEP better.

Now, the veteran teacher's innovations during the COVID-19 pandemic have garnered the attention of State Farm Insurance, who named her as one of 40 recipients of "Teacher Assist Grants" statewide. Winners were chosen from grant proposals submitted in mid-January.
Sutherland's winning proposal will see the grant funds used to purchase two laptop computers with editing software that video production students can check out to hone their editing skills while working from home. In addition to serving academic needs, the remote access to the software will allow her students to enter scholarship competitions.

Once the pandemic is over, the computers will offer access to professional resources for future students who don't have computers with software at home.
Congratulations, Ms. Sutherland on your well-deserved recognition!
