DISTRICT NEWS:

*ALERT* to Eriksson Families Currently Enrolled Under School Of Choice:

The district has once again opened seats under School of Choice for the 2022-23 school year.  Please note… If you’re a family with children currently attending Plymouth-Canton School through the SOC program and you are planning to enroll a new student to our school and district, you must first apply for School of Choice with the district.  Please see the information below.

The Plymouth-Canton Community Schools Board of Education passed a limited Schools of Choice resolution Tuesday, January 25, opening up a minimum of one seat for kindergarten through 10th grade with a maximum of 250 seats for the 2022-23 school year. For the sixth consecutive year, the district will enroll students through the school of choice provisions in Section 105 and 105c, which means that families from Wayne County and all surrounding counties (Washtenaw, Macomb, Oakland, Monroe) are welcome to apply.

The online School of Choice application window will be open from Friday, February 25 to Saturday, March 26 and can be found at www.pccsk12.com beginning on February 25 at midnight. All applications will be considered after the March 26 deadline; the application window closes at 11:59 p.m. EST on that day. The actual number of School of Choice students enrolled into P-CCS from outside of the District will depend on availability.

Families applying to the Plymouth-Canton Community School District under the School of Choice option are applying to the District and are not given the option to select a particular school. An application must be completed for each child you would like considered for School of Choice. Every effort will be made to place students in the school closest to their home. Placement is made in buildings where space is available.

Applicants that are siblings of current P-CCS School of Choice students will be given sibling preference. According to state law, sibling applicants who are entering Kindergarten through 10th grade for the 2022-23 school year are eligible to apply, and sibling applicants are the first students to be considered when placement offers are made. An application must be completed for each child you would like considered for School of Choice, including siblings of current P-CCS School of Choice students. Siblings will not be considered unless an application is completed and submitted during the application window.

  • Once accepted to Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, students will continue to be enrolled until they graduate from high school or move out of the eligible counties.

  • There is no extra cost for this program.

  • School of Choice students must provide their own transportation to school.

Special Education Note Regarding Section 105c School of Choice Program - Please note that if a nonresident child who is eligible for special education services resides in a contiguous intermediate school district, Section 105c requires that the enrolling district have a written agreement with the resident district of the student for the purpose of providing the student with a free appropriate public education and setting forth the responsibility for payment of the added costs of special education programs and services for the student. If a 105c agreement is not signed and finalized between the contiguous county districts, the student will be required to attend his or her resident district.

Additionally, if at any time after a nonresident student who is admitted to Plymouth-Canton Community Schools but resides in a contiguous intermediate school district becomes eligible for special education services, said student must obtain a release from his or her resident district via a 105c agreement, If a 105c agreement is not signed and finalized between the contiguous county districts, the student will be required to return to his or her district of residence and will no longer be permitted to attend Plymouth-Canton Community Schools.

The Plymouth-Canton Community School District is committed to a policy of non-discrimination based on gender, religion, race, color, nationality origin or ancestry, disability, age, marital status, and/or any other legally protected characteristics in employment, education or any program or activity for which the Board of Education is responsible and/or for which the Board of Education receives financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Education.

Traffic Safety During Arrival & Dismissal:

The Canton Police Department is continuing to focus its efforts on traffic safety around local school buildings in the community.  The department has received numerous complaints about traffic around various schools in the area, specifically motorists disregarding traffic controls around the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (Canton, Plymouth and Salem High Schools) during the past week, and as a result will be stepping up patrols around schools.

In an effort to promote safety and educate drivers, the department has assigned

additional patrol units to select school areas during peak problem hours

(morning arrival and afternoon dismissal).  In addition to this increased traffic

enforcement, police encourage drivers to take advantage of other methods to

help alleviate the long lines of traffic such as carpooling or using alternate

routes if possible.

The Canton Police Department will continue to assist with the traffic issues as Plymouth-Canton Community Schools works to resolve the issue.
