The Arts Academy is a smaller learning community for students who are interested in learning about and through the arts.  Visual artists, musicians, actors, dancers, poets and performers of all types are welcome.  The main components of the program are the following:

1. An arts-integrated approach to academic instruction.   The classes listed are offered in special sections for Arts Academy students and are taught by teachers who focus on teaching with the arts in mind.  State and District standards are maintained so students receive an arts-infused approach which is also academically rigorous.

 Arts Academy Classes:

English, Social Science, Science -  9th and 10th grades

Economics and Civics -  11th grade

Capstone - 12th grade

Flexible course offerings abound across the Park in our Visual and Performing Arts Department.  One arts elective is required each year of Academy students.

 2. Special events at school and field trips.

Fall Arts Fest (October) and  Rock the Park (May) are held outside of Plymouth HS.  Annually there is a Holiday Party in December and a symposium of Capstone projects in May.  An Arts Academy Graduation Ceremony is held for seniors  at the end of their final year.  Arts Academy students attend field trips to venues throughout Southeast Michigan, especially ones sponsored by the University Musical Society (UMS) in Ann Arbor.

 3. Visitors and mentors.

Visitors who are professional artists or arts organizers regularly speak to students in the Academy.  Support is often   provided by mentors in the community for students completing Capstone projects.

 4. Partnerships with local and regional arts organizations.

The Michigan Philharmonic Orchestra, UMS, and In the Band at PARC (Plymouth Arts, Recreation and Cultural Complex) are three organizations that we partner with to provide opportunities for students.

Smaller Learning Communities at the Park - contact - lauren.cummings@pccsk12.com

Smaller Learning Communities are a personalized, interdisciplinary approach to learning for 9th grade students.  The goal of our 9th grade Smaller Learning Communities (SLCs) is to assist students in making a successful transition from middle school to high school and to be able to offer rich interdisciplinary learning experiences. Teams of two teachers (World History and World Literature) support approximately 60 students academically and foster connectedness with peers in smaller environments within students’ home buildings.

● The student’s SLC team only applies to the students’ World History and World Literature classes in a two-hour block of time.

● Teachers may plan integrated lessons and projects, confer regularly regarding student progress, and take part in assemblies and field trips.

● Projects-based learning and cross-curricular instruction between World History and World Literature may be explored.

Stem Academy @P-CEP - contact - john.magoulick@pccsk12.com

The STEM Academy has three different pathways that a student can apply to join. These pathways are Biomedical, Computer Science and Engineering. Students in the academy must commit to one elective course each year for their time as a high school student.
