April 13, 2022 PSAT Testing Day for 8th grade students

April 28, 2022 6th Grade Orientation Night

PSAT Testing:

On Wednesday April 13, 2022, all Pioneer 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT at Pioneer Middle School. We will be running an alternate schedule for the day and more details will be coming soon. If you have an 8th grade student, please make sure that you do not schedule any appointments or activities that would require them to miss school on April 13th. 6th and 7th grade students will remain home on April 13th and will participate in a Virtual Learning day.

Health & Safety Reminders:

This school year, we have a number of students who have significant asthma issues and/or sensitivities to fragrances/scents. In order to try to improve the environment for students at Pioneer, we are asking teachers, students and staff members not to bring cleaning products, deodorizers, or other personal care products into the school unless they are identified as fragrance free. Allergic and asthmatic patients, as well as those with other conditions, report that certain odors, even in the smallest amounts, can trigger an episode. If you could please support our efforts by encouraging your student not to bring scented or fragranced items to school, it would be greatly appreciated.

8th Grade Recognition:

On Wednesday, June 15, 2022, we will recognize our 8th grade students with a ceremony in the Pioneer Gym at 8:45 AM. Each student will be allowed to bring two guests. 8th grade students will need to arrive at Pioneer at their normal time and report to Homeroom to line up for the ceremony. The doors to the Gym will open at 8:15 AM. The ceremony normally takes 60-90 minutes and the 8th grade students will be able to leave with their parents following the program.

6th Grade Orientation Night:

If you have an incoming 6th grade student, we will be holding our annual 6th grade Orientation Night on Thursday, April 28th. This will be an in-person event and students will be split into two groups. Students from Isbister, Miller and Tonda Elementary schools will attend from 5:30-6:15 PM. Students from Workman Elementary will attend from 7:00-7:45 PM. We will share more details regarding this event as the date approaches.

District Updates:

The Canton Police Department is continuing to focus its efforts on traffic safety around local school buildings in the community.  The department has received numerous complaints about traffic around various schools in the area, specifically motorists disregarding traffic controls around the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (Canton, Plymouth and Salem High Schools) during the past week.

In an effort to promote safety and educate drivers, the department has assigned

additional patrol units to select school areas during peak problem hours(morning arrival and afternoon dismissal).  In addition to this increased traffic enforcement, police encourage drivers to take advantage of other methods to help alleviate the long lines of traffic such as carpooling or using alternate routes if possible.

The Canton Police Department will continue to assist with the traffic issues as Plymouth-Canton Community Schools works to resolve the issue.
