Plymouth Township Approves Fire Station 2 Reopening
The approval also included the hiring of three new full-time Plymouth Township firefighters.

PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, MI — The reopening of Plymouth Township’s Fire Station No. 2 moved a step closer to reality Tuesday. The Township’s Board of Trustees voted unanimously to approve an intergovernmental agreement with Northville Township that would open the fire station shuttered in 2012. The approval also included the hiring of three new full-time Plymouth Township firefighters.
Northville Township will likely vote on the intergovernmental agreement on July 20. If approved, both townships will supply two emergency vehicles and two firefighters for the fire station. An exact reopening date hasn’t yet been determined, but Plymouth Township Supervisor Kurt Heise said he would like it opened by late summer.
“Reopening Station 2 will improve emergency response times throughout both communities, saving lives and protecting property,” Heise said in a news release. “Public safety is the core function of local government, and what our hardworking taxpayers expect.”

Trustees’ approval comes two weeks after the vote was delayed. The fire station sits on Wilcox Road west of Haggerty Road. Earlier this year, Plymouth Township Fire Chief Dan Phillips said it would cost approximately $172,800 this year to hire three new firefighters and buy the equipment needed to reopen the station.

Northville Township will also provide the most up-to-date emergency training resources to Plymouth Township firefighters, using Northville’s in-house training officer at no cost to Plymouth Township, Heise said in the news release.
