After No. 1 Pick in NFL Draft, Eric Fisher's Mom Can Now Retire
Heidi Langegger of Rochester Hills can now retire after 33 years at Volkswagen.

It was after his standout performance in the Senior Bowl when Eric Fisher of Rochester Hills insisted his mother, Heide Langegger, retire, according to a report in USA Today.
The 2009 Stoney Creek graduate and Central Michigan standout, along with his older sister, had been raised alone by Langegger and Fisher felt his mother deserved a break.
Langegger, however, was reluctant, telling USA Today the idea of not working went against everything she had tried to instill in her son.

Still, Fisher persisted, promising he would take care of her once he was drafted into the NFL, a promise that was fulfilled last week when the Kansas City Chiefs selected the Stoney Creek alum with the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
According to the report, once Fisher's standing at the top of the draft seemed to be a safe bet, she finally relented. Before accompanying her son to New York for the NFL Draft festivities, she typed up an email for the human resources department at Volkswagen, where she had worked in the warranty department 33 years, announcing her retirement at the end of June, the report indicated.

Then Langegger, the single mother and survivor of thyroid cancer, can rest.
"She’s been through a lot in her life,” Fisher told the Wichita Eagle. "The fact that she’s going to live a very happy life from here on out, it’s great for me."
