ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — The death of a 76-year-old Rochester Hills man is under investigation after he was found dead at the bottom of his basement stairs Sunday, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said.

Sheriff's deputies said they, along with the Rochester Hills Fire Department, responded to the 200 block of Woodview Court around 4:42 p.m. Sunday after a woman called 911 saying she had found her roommate at the bottom of their basement stairs, hunched over the railing.

When fire responders arrived, they said they found a 76-year-old man who was beyond help and "obviously deceased." The victim's roommate said that the man had medical issues and recently had surgery on his leg that hindered his ability to walk, according to police.
