Group Home Resident Struck In The Head With A Baseball Bat During Raucous Fight

Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies report a series of fights broke out at the group home after one resident wanted a Facebook account.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — An Oakland County man got knocked in the head with a baseball bat during a rip-roaring fight at a group home, according to a press release.

Oakland County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to Venturewood Group Home in the 200 block of Indian Lake Rd. on Jan. 10 at 4:00 p.m.

Once on the scene, Deputies found the baseball bat attacker, a 21-year-old Oxford Township man, in the roadway with a staff member. The victim, a 20-year-old Oxford Township man, was located in the basement with facial injuries. He was conscious and breathing but couldn't speak to Deputies.

Deputies say that the victim was demanding staff members let him sign up for a Facebook account when he began fighting with staff and countless group home residents. The victim started a few small fights with other group home residents, which were broken up by staff members. However, one resident, who had been involved in the earlier fighting, grabbed a baseball bat from the cellar and hit the victim in the face "to stop the fighting." The man claims this was an act of self-defense.

Paramedics treated the victim hit in the head with a bat for his injuries and transported him to McLaren Hospital - Oakland where he is currently in the Intensive Care Unit. All other residents and staff members declined medical treatment.
