No Injuries in McDonald's Kitchen Fire on Rochester Road

Traffic diverted for an hour; several fire crews on scene.

The corner of Rochester and Avon roads smelled of grease and smoke Sunday afternoon as firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at the restaurant there.

Rochester and Rochester Hills fire crews were called to the scene shortly after 4 p.m. According to a report by the Oakland County Sheriff's office, which assisted at the scene, an oil fryer started the fire; the restaurant's fire suppression system was activated but did not extinguish the fire.

The fire caused a heavy plume of black smoke on the busy corner; traffic was diverted through the parking lot while firefighters fought the blaze.
