Photo of the Day: 'Girls on the Run' Conquer 5K Race at OU
The program promotes physical and emotional development in elementary and middle school girls.

A group of Rochester-area girls celebrated the end of their first season of being "Girls on the Run" last weekend at .
The campus was the site Sunday of a 5K race for Girls on the Run of Greater Detroit, a 10-week program sponsored by the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit and Girls on the Run International. Girls on the Run is designed for girls in third through eighth grades to promote physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. This group of girls from in Rochester Hills participated in the event; it is the only official Girls on the Run group in Rochester or Rochester Hills.
The 5K was not timed; girls were invited to run, skip, walk or dance their way to the finish line to celebrate their accomplishments.

About 1,500 girls in the metro Detroit area completed the 10-week program, which is led by volunteer coaches.
Registration for the fall season will begin on July 16. To register for the program, or to learn more, please visit www.gotrdetroit.org.
