Road Construction Will Start Soon

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — How many times have you heard or read the phrase, “this short term inconvenience will bring long term relief?” Rochester Hills’ drivers will no doubt be reminded of it again this spring as road construction begins.

At least four projects are slated for 2017 with about the same number for next year. The city, Road Commission for Oakland County, and the Michigan Department of Transportation are responsible for the projects, depending on a particular road’s designation.

For its part, Rochester Hills often seeks funding to help defray costs. The city recently applied, for example, to MDOT for funds to help pay for fixing a portion of Hamlin Road west of Adams Road in 2018. If the application is approved, the city would receive approximately $1.2 million, or about 22 percent of the project’s $5.4 million cost, the Rochester Post reported.

“That stretch of roadway is not in very good condition,” Rochester Hills Director of Public Services Allan Schneck told the newspaper.

Here’s a partial list of upcoming projects as listed by the city of Rochester Hills:

Walton Blvd Culvert Replacements
Location: Walton Blvd West of Adams
Proposed Start Date: Spring, 2018
Anticipated Completion Date: Summer, 2018
Project Description:Replace three existing culverts that run under Walton Blvd. Two are located within Rochester Hills and one in Auburn Hills.
Traffic Control: Run 2-way traffic along one side of the boulevard while the culvert on opposite side of the boulevard is being replaced and vice-versa.

Auburn Road Rehabilitation with Turn Lane Improvements
Location: Auburn Road and Livernois Road
Proposed Start Date: Mid June, 2017
Anticipated Completion Date: Mid September, 2017
Project Description: Construct dedicated right turn lanes for EB and WB Auburn Rd and for NB Livernois. Also, install a new traffic signal with the box span configuration.
