Stoney Creek High School Band To Perform In New York City

Stoney Creek band will perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Monday.

ROCHESTER, MI — It’s not often a high school band gets to perform in New York City, let alone Carnegie Hall. But that’s exactly what 39 members of the Stoney Creek High School band program will be doing Sunday. The band selected by Manhattan Concert Productions for the honor, and will perform with four other bands from across the country.

"This is a huge performance opportunity and honor for our program," said Stoney Creek band director Lauren Staniszewski. "We will be performing on one of the world's most famous stages, as well as working with world-renowned composer and clinician, Frank Ticheli."

The band will take part in a clinic work on Sunday and then perform at 9:30 am on Monday at Carnegie Hall. The performance is part of the Manhattan Concert Productions symphonic series for bands and orchestras. It allows them to perform at a major concert venue like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, or Chicago Orchestra Hall.

Participating ensembles also benefit from a private clinic session, according to MCP’s website. A guest faculty conducts the private session and bands receive comments from an acclaimed panel of nationally-recognized clinicians.
