Summer Reading (and 'Dreaming') Starts Friday at Rochester Hills Library

This year's theme is 'Dream Big — Read!' What will your children be reading this summer?

Summer break doesn't have to mean a break from the books.

The Rochester Hills Public Library's popular summer reading program is evidence of that: each year, hundreds of local children register to read — and be rewarded — through the program.

  • Starting at 9 a.m. Friday you can register online at www.rhpl.org/summerreading, at the library or on the bookmobile.
  • Kids are invited to read as much as they can until Aug. 11, the closing date of the program.
  • Any child from birth through age 12 who lives in Rochester, Rochester Hills or Oakland Township is invited to participate.
  • There's a separate reading program for teens ages 13 to 18.
  • Kids must have their own library card to register.
  • Yes, there's ice cream again this year. The popular Ice Cream Social, an event that officially kicks off the summer reading season, is planned for 2 p.m. June 20.

And did you know? There's an adult summer reading program, too. Its theme this year is "Dream of Possibilities," and, like the kids' program, features incentives and prizes for reading.

For more information on the programs, visit the library online or in person.
