1 Dead, 1 Arrested After Crash On I-696 In Oakland County: Police
Police said a motorcyclist struck a disabled car in a construction zone on the freeway.

ROYAL OAK, MI — A motorcyclist was killed and a woman was arrested after a Saturday crash on Interstate 696 in Oakland County, according to Michigan State Police.
The crash happened at 12:30 a.m. Saturday in the west lanes on Interstate 696 near Campbell Road in Royal Oak, according to police.
Police said a 30-year-old Clio woman was speeding in a BMW in the left middle lane of a construction zone where she smashed into the back of a Nissan sedan. The sedan then struck the right shoulder wall and came to a stop, according to police.

The BMW struck a left median wall and became disabled under the Campbell Road bridge, according to police.
Moments later, a 20-year-old Ypsilanti man, who was riding a Suzuki motorcycle, struck the disabled BMW and was ejected from his motorcycle, according to police.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died, according to police.
Police did not report any other injuries in the crash.
Witnesses told troopers the motorcyclist was driving recklessly, speeding in and out of traffic just before the crash, according to police.
While investigating, troopers said they smelled alcohol on the driver of the BMW and that she failed field sobriety tests. Troopers arrested the woman on suspicion of drunk driving and charges are pending a review by prosecutors.
"This crash highlighted the dangerous driving behaviors we see causing preventable crashes," said MSP Lt. Mike Shaw in a statement. "We continue to remind drivers to slow down, especially in construction zones, and do not get behind the wheel impaired."
Police did not name the Clio woman on Monday.
