1 Dead, 1 Hurt In Motorcycle Crash On I-75 In Oakland County: Police

Police said two motorcyclists were speeding and weaving in-and-out of traffic on the freeway and struck a pickup truck.

MADISON HEIGHTS, MI — One man is dead and another man was injured Thursday night in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 75 in Oakland County, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened at 9:25 p.m. on northbound Interstate 75 near 14 Mile Road in Madison Heights, according to police.

Police said two motorcyclists were speeding and weaving in-and-out of traffic on the freeway Thursday night when both motorcycles hit the back of a Chevrolet Silverado in the center left lane.

Both men were thrown from their motorcycles and landed in the right shoulder of the freeway, according to police.

One of the motorcyclists, a 19-year-old Saginaw man was killed, according to police.

The other biker, a 20-year-old Swartz Creek man, was taken to a nearby hospital with multiple injuries, according to police.

There was no immediate further word on his condition.

The driver of the pickup truck was able to manage a stop on the right shoulder and was not injured in the crash, according to police.

The freeway was closed for several hours after the crash, but has since reopened.

"We continue to see preventable traffic crashes caused by risky driving behaviors," Michigan State Police First Lieutenant Mike Shaw said. "As you can imagine these behaviors are even worse on a motorcycle. Please ride safely."
