2 Injured In Wrong-Way Crash On I-696 In Oakland County: Police
Police believe both men involved in the crash were impaired while driving.

MADISON HEIGHTS, MI — Two men were injured in a Sunday wrong-way crash on Interstate 696 in Oakland County, according to Michigan State Police.
Police said the crash happened in the westbound lanes of Interstate 696 near Dequindre Avenue in Madison Heights at 4:35 a.m.
A 40-year-old Eastpointe man was driving a Chrysler 300 east in the westbound lanes on the freeway where he collided head-on with a Jeep Grand Cherokee that was driven by a 52-year-old man from Huntington, Indiana, according to police.

Both drivers were injured in the crash and taken to nearby hospitals where their conditions were unknown, according to police.
Police believe both men involved in the crash were impaired while driving, and were waiting for blood work, according to police.

Once police receive the blood results, they will turn over their investigation to the prosecutor's office, according to police.
There were no other injuries in the crash.
"Two drivers, both showing signs of impairment, were involved in this crash," Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw said. "Over the weekend, troopers in the district arrested 13 impaired drivers. There are so many options available to avoid getting behind the wheel impaired."
