6K Without Power In Royal Oak, Madison Heights: DTE

The largest outage in Royal Oak was centered in the area of 12 Mile and South Campbell roads, the utility said.

ROYAL OAK, MI — About 6,500 people in Royal Oak and Madison Heights were without power Tuesday afternoon, DTE Energy said.

The utility said the power outage was caused when a fire broke out at one of its substations in the area Tuesday night. The damage has prompted DTE to bring in generators to get the lights back on. Crews were expected to have power restored by 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials do not believe there was any foul play that caused the fire.

The largest outage in Royal Oak was centered in the area of 12 Mile and South Campbell roads, where about 3,000 people were in the dark, the utility said. A large stretch along Interstate 75 between 11 Mile and 12 Mile roads was also without power Tuesday afternoon.

The area of 11 Mile and John R roads east of Interstate 75 in Madison Heights also saw a large outage, with the utility reporting about 3,500 people were without power Tuesday afternoon.
