Disaster Plan Meeting To Take Place At Police HQ February 27
The city and police are asking residents and businesses for their input about disaster readiness.

Royal Oak wants residents’ input into the city’s disaster plan. According to a release from the Royal Oak Police Department, the city is inviting citizens and businesses to a public meeting to discuss the plan on Feb. 27. During the meeting, people will review the final draft of the hazard mitigation plan, officials said.
“The primary purpose of the meeting will be to review and discuss the final draft of the hazard mitigation plan, which discusses the hazards that could potentially impact the City, and the preparedness and mitigation efforts identified to create a more resilient community to the identified risks,” the release stated.
The meeting will take place Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. in the conference room at Royal Oak Police Department Headquarters, 221 E Third Street, Royal Oak. The plan will also be available for review online via a city website.

The federal government requires states and municipalities to develop a FEMA-approved multi-hazard mitigation plan, according to legislation passed in 2000. Compliance with the law allows states and cities to remain eligible for Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) and Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) project grant funding. The funds are especially useful for preparedness and mitigation, an especially important when states and cities need assistance after a federally-declared natural disaster, officials said.
Comments and questions about the plan can be sent to the Royal Oak Police Department by e-mail at PatrickS@romi.gov or by phone at (248) 246-3520.
