Driver Killed In Crash On I-696 In Oakland County: Police

Michigan State Police said the driver suffered a "medical emergency" while driving on the freeway and slowly hit a wall.

MADISON HEIGHTS, MI — A driver died Monday night after crashing into a wall on Interstate 696 in Madison Heights, Michigan State Police said.

State troopers said the driver suffered a "medical emergency" while driving in the eastbound lanes near Dequindre Road at 7:40 p.m. and slowly drifted onto the left shoulder, striking the wall.

Troopers broke the car's window to get into the vehicle and determined the driver was dead, police said.

There were no other passengers in the car and no one else was injured in the crash, police said.

Michigan State Police did not release the driver's name, gender or age as officials continue investigating the crash.
