Expanded Recycling Program Starts July 17
Royal Oak residents will start receiving new 65-gallon recycling carts on July 17. The city is hoping to double the amount of collections.

ROYAL OAK, MI — Recycling for Royal Oak residents is about to get easier. New 65-gallon carts — three times the size of current recycling bins — will be delivered starting July 17. Officials hope it will lead to a large increase in recycling collections.
“In Royal Oak our goal is to get 20,000 carts delivered over a period of about five weeks, which is about 1,000 per day,” said Greg Rassel, Royal Oak’s Director of Department of Public Services.
“Mixed recycling allows (residents) to put all their recyclables in one cart without having to separate out items such as cardboard,” said Colette Farris of South Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority, the Royal Oak Daily Tribune reported.
