ROYAL OAK, MI — A popular Royal Oak bar known for their live music and DJ performances is closing this weekend, according to a news release.

The Morrie, located at 511 S. Main in downtown Royal Oak, will close Sunday after eight years. The bar was best known for live music, fun cocktails and bar bites, including waffle fries.

Owner and Real Estate Developer Aaron F. Belen of AFB Hospitality Group said the Morrie's former space will become Blind Owl, a Macomb County restaurant that focuses on mixing international foods.

"The Morrie has been very popular since opening in 2016, but we’re now ready to pass the torch to Blind Owl’s Nicolas Andreasson," said Belen in a statement. "Since purchasing the building in 2015, Blind Owl will be my first tenant in the space, and I look forward to supporting their success."

The new Blind Owl in Royal Oak is expected to open in mid-September. The new restaurant's menu will feature unique dishes, such as shawarma nachos and lamb birria, as well as more traditional foods like pasta, sushi and burgers.

"We’ve been looking to expand for a while, and this was the perfect spot. Our goal is to be recognized as the premier destination in Royal Oak for culinary innovation with the freshest ingredients, unparalleled hospitality, and vibrant social gatherings – where every guest feels welcomed, indulged and eager to return," Andreasson said.

The original Blind Owl is located at 36310 Main in New Baltimore.
