Home Break-In Leads To Failed Theft Of Cadillac

Royal Oak Police said someone broke into a Thorncroft Court home and tried to steal the homeowner's car without success.

ROYAL OAK, MI — A homeowner in the 5000 block of Thorncroft Court said that someone into their home between June 4 and June 12 and stole keys to a 2003 Cadillac. Police reports said the suspected attempt to steal the vehicle from the homeowner’s driveway, but was was unsuccessful. The suspect gained entry to the home by smashing out a sliding window in the back of the home.

The break-in capped off a busy week for Royal Oak Police. Between June 7-15, the department made 32 arrests. The largest numbers of those arrests were for misdemeanor warrants and disorderly conduct. Both categories saw six arrests.

The next highest categories were driving with a suspended license and operating a vehicle, each with three. Here’s a look at other reported incidents for the week:

Larceny from Motor Vehicle
1000 block of Crooks Rd., 6-9-17, 5:20 p.m.- 5:40 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect(s) stole the Michigan license plate off of his 2008 Hyosung motorcycle.

3000 block of Coolidge Hwy. 6-10-17- 6-11-17, 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect(s) stole all four wheels off of his 2017 Ford.

500 block of Laurel St., 6-13-17, 8:00 p.m.- 10:00 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect(s) entered his unlocked 2008 Mazda and stole a MacBook computer and headphones.

Larceny
709 N. Washington Ave. (Royal Oak Middle School), 6-9-17, 10:23 a.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect stole her Trek bike from a school bike rack.

4000 block of Tonawanda Ave. 5-30-17- 6-5-17, 1:00 p.m.- 1;26 p.m.: Complainant reported two suspected cleaning staff stole (7) gift cards from her residence.

Malicious Destruction of Property

2000 block of W. Thirteen Mile Rd. 6-8-17, 3:14 p.m.: Complainant reported an unknown suspect damaged the door handle and lock mechanism on her 2007 Ford.

215 S. Main St. (Mr. B’s), 6-12-17, 11:31 p.m.: Complainant reported a suspect damaged the door handle of the business in an attempt to enter after closing.
