I-75 Construction Changes In Oakland County: What's Open, Closed

State officials announced major changes to the Interstate 75 modernizing project that are set to begin this weekend in Oakland County.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — State officials announced major changes to the Interstate 75 modernizing project set to begin this weekend in Oakland County.

Construction crews will close the southbound Interstate 75 ramps to 11 Mile Road, starting at 10 a.m. on Friday. The southbound service drive will also be closed from north of Gardenia Avenue to Interstate 696, officials said. The closure will remain in place until Sept. 1, 2023.

The closure is necessary to allow the City of Royal Oak to install a new water main under the southbound service drive, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.

The southbound Interstate 75 exit to eastbound and westbound Interstate 696 will also close Friday at 10 p.m. so that construction crews can prepare the area for retaining wall construction. The exits will open back up at 5 a.m. Monday morning, officials said.

However, the two-lane ramp will be reduced to just one lane starting at 5 a.m. Monday until February 2023. But drivers will still have access to both eastbound and westbound Interstate 696 during the single-lane closure, officials said.

But it's not all bad on Interstate 75, as crews will reopen some portions of the freeway, including both directions of 12 Mile Road under Interstate 75 by 10 p.m. Friday until February 2023, when crews will close the road back down again, along with its southbound ramps in, officials said.

Interstate 75's northbound ramps to and from 12 Mile Road will remain open until sometime in mid-November, officials said.
