Join Royal Oak Nature Society for Open House at Tenhave Woods

The Royal Oak Nature Society invites Patch readers to explore nature. Be sure to bring your camera!

Step into a Royal Oak outdoors adventure with the Royal Oak Nature Society.

The exploration with botanists, photographers and volunteer naturalists begins at 1 p.m. this Saturday at Tenhave Woods. (Park at Lexington/Marais lot and meet at Lexington entrance.) It's all part of the Royal Oak Nature Society's Open House event.

Pond Life Study

1 to 3 p.m.: Sample the vernal pond for all of the absolutely amazing abundance of life that now exists in the pond during the spring and summer!  There will be viewing trays available to examine what was found.  For those interested, small aquarium nets will be available for you to catch your own pond life that naturalists will help you identify.  

Tree Walk

1:15 p.m.: Tenhave Woods has 43 species of trees. Learn from Don Drife, Nature Society botanist, about some of the common tree species of southeastern Michigan.

Nature Photography

1:30 p.m.: Pat and Ray Coleman, professional photographers, will show you how to photograph nature. Be sure to bring your own camera and take pictures afterwards of the abundant wildflowers that carpet Tenhave Wood’s forest floor this time of year.

Wildflower Walk 

1:45 p.m.:  This is a great time of the year to look for wildflowers.  We will be looking for Wild Geranium, Foamflower, Jack-in-the-Pulpit, trillium, Wood Poppy and others.
