OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — All northbound lanes on Interstate 75 at Interstate 696 reopened Friday morning after a semi tire fire shut down the freeway Thursday afternoon, according to Michigan State Police.

Officials said the semi truck carrying hot asphalt ended up catching fire and pulled over to the median wall on Interstate 75 just before Interstate 696 at roughly 6 p.m.

The Royal Oak Fire Department put out the fire, but the blaze damaged the median wall, officials said. Crews were determining if that part of the wall was salvageable.
