Nearly 90K Metro Detroit Residents Lose Power In Severe Storms: DTE
The utility estimates that 60,000 people were without power Friday morning, but that 80 percent of customers should see power by day's end.
ROYAL OAK, MI — More than 60,000 Metro Detroit residents remained without power on Friday morning after severe storms that included hail and heavy winds rolled through the region on Thursday night.
DTE Energy officials said Friday morning that an estimated 90,000 residents lost power due to the storm and that as of Friday morning, 60,000 of those customers had not seen their power restored. DTE said in a news release that it has more than 2,100 work crews out throughout the area working on power lines affected by the severe weather.
In the news release, DTE estimates that 80 percent of those without power will have their electricity restored by the end of the day on Friday. The remainder of those residents should see their electricity return by sometime during the day on Friday.

“We know how challenging it is to be without power,” the utility company said.
DTE officials are warning residents to remain 25 feet from downed power lines or anything that may have come in contact with them.
