Next Solar Eclipse Hits Metro Detroit In 2024

Metro Detroit will be much closer to the "path of totality" during the next solar eclipse.

METRO DETROIT, MI — If Monday’s solar eclipse madness wasn’t quite enough, there’s good news: Another one is coming in 2024. And instead of being just 79 percent blocked, metropolitan Detroit will be 99 percent blocked on April 8, 2024, according to a Detroit Free Press report.

“And unlike Monday's eclipse, which passed from west to east, Oregon to South Carolina, the 2024 eclipse will travel southwest to northeast, coming up from Mexico into Texas, before arching through the upper Midwest and North Atlantic states before entering Canada.”
“Many major cities will be along the path of totality: San Antonio, Austin, Dallas and Ft. Worth in Texas; Little Rock, Ark.; Indianapolis; Cleveland; Erie, Pa.; Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, N.Y. Along with Detroit, other big cities just outside the path of totality include St. Louis, Montreal and Toronto.”
