Normandy Oaks Final Plan Calls For Splash Pad, One Soccer Field
Royal Oak has finalized plans for making the former Normandy Oaks golf course into the city's largest public park.

A task force approved plans Monday evening for Normandy Oaks, soon to be Royal Oak’s largest public park. The Normandy Oaks task force announced final details for the 40-acre park, which they will present to the City Commission for approval Feb. 26. Features the task force says will definitely be included in the new park include a splash pad, one soccer field, trails, a picnic shelter and restrooms.
Royal Oak residents present at the Feb. 19 meeting voiced approval for the compromises the task force made to keep the new park’s construction costs to its $3 million budget. The park’s design was created by Royal Oak firm Nowak & Fraus Engineers with help from subcontractor Bob Ford of Landscape Architects.

- A splash pad
- One soccer field
- A play ground
- Restrooms with a sheltered picnic area
- Natural areas, including a pond
- A sledding hill
- Paved trails on the park’s west side
- ADA compliant gravel trails for other areas of the park
The task force saved money in the final budget by limiting the park to one soccer field, setting a budget for the splash pad at $285,000 and nixing plans for things like exercise stations and volley ball courts.
