ROYAL OAK, MI — Royal Oak Middle School Principal Kristin Meldrum was named the 2024 Michigan School Counselor Association Administrator of the Year.

The Michigan School Counselor Association invited counselors from across the state that are members to nominate administrators who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and leadership.

At Royal Oak Middle School, all four counselors who are members of the association came together to discuss the opportunity, recognizing the remarkable qualities that Principal Kristin embodies.

"Our committee truly enjoyed learning about your leadership and advocacy from your school
counseling team," Michigan School Counselor Association President Terri Tchorzynski said. "Based on the examples shared, there is no doubt in our minds that you are a true advocate for our profession and a leader who truly understands the impact school counselors can have on all students when given the necessary administrative support."

A district spokesperson said Meldrum has exemplified our district's vision of a "community of excellence" by her unwavering commitment to providing an inclusive, diverse, safe, and student-first environment at the middle school.
